“If you are silent about your pain, they’ll kill you and say you enjoyed it.” – Zora Neale Hurston

“People get used to anything. The less you think about your oppression, the more your tolerance for it grows. After a while, people just think oppression is a normal state of things. But to become free, you have to be acutely aware of being a slave.” – Assata Shakur

Welcome. I am a Black American currently getting a Masters in Visual Sociology in London. Here you’ll find my thoughts on this big transition as well as feminism, womanism, anti-blackness, classism, photography, music, books, and various other topics. I’ll frequently post links to articles about a variety of other things as well. I love jeans, red lipstick – currently into matte colors because…OMG – and public transportation.

  1. Hi, it’s Sarah from Black Feminisms event yesterday. That quote by Zora Neale Hurston is one of my personal favourites. The second one by Assata Shakur is one I hadn’t come accross before, very powerful. Look forward to reading more of your posts.
